The Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre (OAJ) is located at El Pico del Buitre (40° 02' 28.67'' North, 01° 00' 59.10'' West), 1957 meters above the sea level, close to the village Arcos de las Salinas (Teruel).).

To access the OAJ, there are three different ways:

From the north face of the Sierra de Javalambre, the access is carried out through the Javalambre ski resort, along a 12 km North-South track. It is not recommended, or even impossible, driving by car through this track during the winter period.

From the south face of the Sierra de Javalambre, the Observatory can be reached throug two different tracks:

- One of them begins in a turning from the A-1514 road between the villages of Torrijas and Arcos de las Salinas, about 2km away from the first one. It has a length of about 17km.

- The other one begins at the village of Arcos de las Salinas, passing along the river to its source and following directly to the Pico del Buitre from this point. This track is the shortest one, about 11 km from the village, and it is doable at any time of the year.

In all cases it is recommended to use an 4x4 SUV.
