The largest allocation, more than €800,000, is earmarked for the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory. Of this amount, €500,000 will be used to improve infrastructure, with a particular focus on protection against adverse weather conditions, which are common at nearly 2,000 meters above sea level at Pico del Buitre. An additional €130,000 will be allocated to the acquisition of IT equipment, and €252,000 will be devoted directly to equipment and developments for the telescopes and their scientific instrumentation.

A further €70,000 will make it possible to complete the equipment and exhibition content at Galáctica, a center that is close to opening its doors. In addition, €410,000 is planned to upgrade the Data Processing and Archiving Unit (UPAD), which forms part of the ICTS that constitutes the Observatory. Another significant item is €750,000 for the development of R&D&I activities at the Center, and finally €288,000 will be allocated to equipment at CEFCA itself to support its day-to-day operations.

In this way, the Center for the Study of the Physics of the Cosmos of Aragon will receive €2.4 million from the 2022 Teruel Investment Fund, an extraordinary fund co-financed in equal parts by the Government of Aragon and the Government of Spain.

Within the breakdown of projects under FITE 2022, one of the most significant budget lines corresponds to the project entitled “Galáctica – Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory,” implemented under the framework of the agreement signed between the General State Administration and the Government of Aragon to promote the economic development of the province of Teruel and to address existing imbalances (FITE 2022).
